Descripción del servicio

In the deadly chaos of the First World War, one horse witnesses the reality of battle from both sides of the trenches. Bombarded by artillery, with bullets knocking riders from his back, Joey tells a powerful story of the truest friendships surviving in terrible times. One horse has the seen the best and the worst of humanity. The power of war and the beauty of peace. This is his story. War Horse was adapted by Steven Spielberg as a major motion picture with Jeremy Irvine, Emily Watson, and Benedict Cumberbatch. The National Theatre production opened in 2007 and has enjoyed successful runs in the West End and on Broadway. A great way of introducing young readers to the realities of WWI. War Horse is a story of universal suffering for a universal audience by a writer who ‘has the happy knack of speaking to both child and adult readers’ (The Guardian). Michael Morpurgo has written more than one hundred books for children and won the Whitbread Award, the Smarties Award, the Circle of Gold Award, the Children’s Book Award and has been short-listed for the Carnegie Medal four times. In this unit, and with the help of this engaging narrative, we will explore several key literature concepts in detail. Please find our unit outline below: Lesson 1: WWI context and introduction to the book Lesson 2: Chapters 1-4 Inferencing (reading homework) Lesson 3 - Chapter 5 - vocabulary and parts of speech Lesson 4 - Introducing internal and external conflict (reading homework) Lesson 5 - Chapter 9 - Character attitudes Lesson 6 - Chapter 10 - Relationships Lesson 7 - Chapter 11 - How to deal with unfamiliar vocabulary Lesson 8 - Finishing the book (reading homework) Lesson 9 - Reviewing key unit concepts Lesson 10 - Constructing our literature essay All learning will be consolidated with lesson feedback reports which outline the key features of the lesson, ensuring that the knowledge gained can be reviewed and revisited at the child's pleasure.  Places are strictly limited to four students to ensure class quality so book early to avoid disappointment.  Once you have booked onto the course, please send an email to contact@mlukenglish.com with your child's name and age.  I can't wait to get started, see you there!

Política de cancelación

In order to cancel/reschedule a lesson, please notify the tutor 24 hours before the lesson is due to begin. This gives the tutor a fair opportunity to fill your slot. Classes cancelled/rescheduled with under 24 hours notice may incur a charge amounting to the full lesson cost. Make-up classes may not be offered for classes cancelled by students. All cancellation and reschedule requests should be made by parents/guardians rather than by students (under 18) and sent via email (contact@mlukenglish.com) or WhatsApp (+44 7782554789). For lessons in which the student appears to be late, the tutor is obliged to wait for 15 minutes before leaving the meeting and may not return thereafter. If the student does not connect and if contact has not been made by the parents prior to the lesson or during the waiting time, the lesson will be classed as a ‘no show’ and automatically cancelled. The account may be charged at the tutor’s discretion.  When purchasing a package of lessons or a course, the client agrees to attend the scheduled lessons. Therefore, if three or more classes are cancelled consecutively, the account may be permanently terminated. In this case, a refund of 80% of the remaining fee for the package or course purchased will be issued to the client. The remaining 20% will be held by the tutor as an administration fee.  If the client purchases a package of lessons or a course but decides to terminate the course, an administration fee of 20% of the total cost will be charged. The outstanding balance will be refunded to the client. This does not affect your statutory rights.  Regarding group classes only, if a student is unable to attend a lesson, parents can request that the lesson be recorded and sent in order for the student to review. In these cases, the tutor should be notified six hours before the class is due to begin.  If the tutor needs to cancel a session, they should also aim for 24 hours with a minimum of 12 hours. In extreme cases, this may not be adhered to, but a make-up class should be offered to the student as soon as possible.  Some classes may be recorded for training and marketing purposes. By purchasing a service, the client agrees to the terms above.
