Course description - Yr 7/8 - Taking a stand. In this unit, we'll dive into some of the most influential speeches, presentations and texts that have inspired change around the world. We'll analyse, evaluate and comment on their effectiveness as well as using them as amazing models to guide our own writing. Below, you'll find a list of the areas we'll be learning about: Expressing convictions Analysing an opinion article about protecting the greenbelt Aristotle's triad Hillary Clinton's passionate speech about women's rights The use of a motif in Hillary Clinton's speech Using a motif in your writing Evaluating how two non-fiction writers express their opinions ‘The Chimney Sweeper’: a protest against child labour How Romeo takes a stand in Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet Planning a fairy tale about a social issue ‘Where Have All the Flowers Gone?’: a song of conviction Creating content for a formal presentation Planning content for a presentation Preparing to deliver a presentation Delivering a formal presentation All learning will be consolidated with lesson feedback reports which outline the key features of the lesson, ensuring that the knowledge gained can be reviewed and revisited at the child's pleasure.  Places are strictly limited to four students to ensure class quality so book early to avoid disappointment.  Once you have booked onto the course, please send an email to contact@mlukenglish.com with your child's name and age.  Please use the same Zoom link as we used for the last course. I can't wait to get started, see you there!
